If you ask this question to hundred people in hundred different countries, cities and communities, you will probably get hundred different answers. This is not an easy question to answer, and there is probably not one correct answer that would please everybody and fit everywhere.
To some people the concept of “Good Governance” is little more than an empty buzzword on the lips of donors and development workers.
The Civil Society Support Mechanism (CSSM) hopes to bring the concept of Good Governance alive and meaningful to Mozambican citizens, by encouraging the citizens themselves to define what is “good” for them, be engaged, speak up and express what they think is needed to improve the governance of the country - to ultimately improve the quality of life for all citizens.
Without trying to make a definition we still believe there are some crucial ingredients of “Good Governance”; such as government transparency, accountability, public debate and opportunities for citizens to express their opinions, participate in democratic processes and influence political decisions that have impact on their own lives. Making governance work for the citizens is the key component of CSSM. Good Governance enables people to gain freedom, have their views heard, choose their representatives and associate freely with others |
